Most women, with their due date is looming, go into a torrent of cleaning, stockpiling and organizing, usually followed by labor and a baby! Other women find themselves bitten by the nesting bug much earlier. But regardless of when you are bitten by the nesting bug, it can be overwhelming. It’s the plight of every mother to be. Managing the pre-baby to do list serves to help manage stress, and although no one knows when the instinct will kick in, there are ways to perfect the art of nesting!

Make a List

Instead of setting off into a flurry of things to do, which can be extremely overwhelming, write down everything that needs to be finished and everything that you want to have finished before the baby arrives. A list serves to keep tasks in perspective and highlights the NEEDS to be done, compared to the WANTS to be done.

Prioritize

Though you may want to organize the kitchen cupboards or renovate the basement, newborns will survive without these tasks being done. Start with the most important things first; such as having the car seat installed, the birth bag packed and outfits that are washed and ready for baby. Once the must do’s have been tackled, you can then proceed to the rest of the list.

Meal Planning

Having frozen meals prepped and ready to be cooked is a new parents dream. It makes coming home from the hospital far less stressful, for fathers in particular. New dads can rest assured knowing that his wife and child will at the very least have delicious and healthy meals ready to go. Having a month’s worth of frozen entrees in your deep freeze may seem excessive, but this frees up so much time to allow you to get into the swing of parenthood.

Pamper

It is easy to get caught up in preparing for baby: nurseries, birth plan, and the like. But to keep you from getting overwhelmed, take some time for yourself. It is essential to balance to do lists with things that serve only to make you happy. While many think nesting is a time to prepare for baby, and it is, it is also the time for you to take care of yourself. After all, when the big day comes you’ll be doing all the work. And when baby does arrive, you will wish you had taken the time to nap or get a pedicure.

Getting ready for baby is an exciting time, but having a plan and perfecting the art of nesting allows you to enjoy this time stress free!
