Hospital Bag Checklist

The last thing you want to worry about when you go into labor is what should I bring to the hospital? It’s a good idea to know what you need/want to bring and have your bag packed by your 35th week.

What to bring for you

Items for Labor:

  • Non-slip socks or slippers (for pacing the hall during labor)
  • Robe
  • Camera / Camcorder
  • Smartphone (Dad can be texting, Tweeting and Facebooking all through the labor process)
  • Contact list
  • Stop watch to time contractions (once you are hooked up to the monitor this will be done for you)
  • Snacks and drinks
  • Any items you’ve identified in Lamaze class that will help in labor (birthing ball, rice sock, rolling pin, etc)

Items for after Labor:

  • Change of clothes
  • Nursing bra
  • Nursing pads
  • Nipple cream (lanolin)
  • Nursing pillow
  • Earplugs (in case you are sharing a room with someone else)
  • Toiletries (although basics will be provided by hospital)

What to bring for baby

  • Swaddling blanket
  • Knit hat
  • Going home outfit
  • Car seat
  • Nail clippers

What the hospital should provide (call to confirm in advance)

  • Hospital Gown
  • Under garments (mesh panties)
  • Sanitary pads
  • Basic toiletries
  • Breast pump
  • Baby blankets
  • Diapers and wipes
